DFM applied to large hydraulic cylinders at Caterpillar, Inc. produced significant cost reduction. Then, at Xerox, DFM was used to re-design a paper feed guide to go from five parts plus hardware to one part and snap fits. Standardized components at IBM help expedite product development by offering the designers many necessary pre-designed "building blocks."
